Gerry Sklavounos was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on December 16th 1974 to parents of Greek origin. He lived in the district of Plateau Mont Royal for the first years of his life, before moving to Park-Extension at the age of six.
He spent the next 23 years of his life in Park-Extension, in the riding of Laurier-Dorion, which he now represents at the National Assembly of Quebec.
A gifted student, Gerry obtained his diploma of collegiate studies at Vanier College in 1994 and went on to complete his academic career at McGill University with bachelor degrees in Civil and Common Law in 1998. Gerry speaks, reads and writes English, French, and Greek.
First elected as Member of the National Assembly of Quebec for the riding of Laurier-Dorion on March 26th 2007, he is currently in his second mandate. Having served as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks and to the Minister of Health and Social Services, on February 10, 2011, Gerry was elected Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Health and Social Services.
Laurier-Dorion is a Quebec electoral riding in the Montreal area home to over 80 000 residents, 50 000 of which are eligible to vote.
Named in honor of Wilfrid Laurier and Antoine-Aimé Dorion, the riding is comprised of the districts of Park-Extension (Laurier) to the west and Villeray (Dorion) to the east.
Densely populated, the riding covers an area of approximately 6 square kilometres.
Recognized for its cultural diversity and majoritarily allophone, this metropolitan riding includes a francophone population of only 43% residing primarily in the Villeray district.
